Hellooooo, Craft Room!
It’s almost finished! My new craft room will be ready to roll this week. I’ve been plotting, sketching and doing a mental inventory. Now to organize and decorate. I’ll be posting along the way. I’ve made the commitment that it will live within its boundaries. I don’t have any trouble keeping collections within their boundaries. For example, my collection of glass paperweights lives on one window sill. When I filled the window sill, the collection ended. I have replaced one, but it still fills the same space. This new craft room will also have boundaries within it. Whatever doesn’t fit, doesn’t come in–now or later.
The room has 6′ of counter on one wall and 10′ on the other. The cabinet bases are vanities to which we added stock countertop. There is a small closet under the stairs that is 22″x44″. There will also be a 10′ long ledge shelf above the cabinets. It is going to be 2″ deep and perfect for wood-mounted stamps and likely some inks too.
Here is a view from the stairs. The little gap at the end of the counter will be filled before it is done. We didn’t want to have to buy custom counters just for a 2″ space.
I love the natural lighting and six recessed lights as well as the abundant electrical outlets at countertop height. We also redid the bathroom/laundry and staircase. The stairs were quite steep before. the bathroom is opposite the studio on the other side of the stairs. We are so grateful to God for His provision of all that we needed to be able to renovate this 1/3 of the basement.
This is the ceiling. It is low but doesn’t feel low at all! Each panel has four squares.
Over the next few weeks I will be posting the storage solutions and organizational ideas that I discover along the way. Also coming soon–a punch art turtle card. Then it is on to mixed media with my friend this weekend, another shadowbox order and some very special name art to be framed for women and children in a shelter.

Congratulations! It looks wonderful Yolanda. I look forward to seeing you ‘move in’.
Soooooo cool! Can’t wait to come and make something pretty with you in your new space!
Beautiful! I hope you use the broom to clobber anyone who put their “stuff” in your craft room!
