Now That’s Pinteresting–Framed Christmas Tree
Last night’s project was a framed Christmas tree made from costume jewelry. It was inspired by this blog post, which includes a lot of other fabulous ideas. The tree is at the bottom of the lengthy post. This one is destined to become one of my favorite Christmas decorations!
The backing is cut from a sheet of pink hard foam insulation, but regular foam core board would work just fine. Then it is covered in black fabric.
I drew the outline using a waxy highlighter pencil. Then placed the garland, star and began dry-fitting the jewelry.
After I was happy with placement and choice of jewels I used Glossy Accents to adhere them. Next I began filling in any thin areas with faux pearls and seed beads that I had on hand. I just put a dollop of GA into the spaces and dropped beads onto it, not concerned about how they landed. The “pot” has a little gole Distress Stickles added to it for contrast and more shine. After allowing the piece to dry overnight, I popped it into a frame (removing the glass). The finished piece fit an 8″x10″ frame. All the jewels were given to me by a friend with the instructions to use them to make something. Woot! I also found a good stash at a garage sale this summer. More citywide yard sales are coming up and I will be keeping an eye out. I would love to make more of these!

very nice – what a great way to use up the jewelry – the bird looks like a charm I have in my supplies
