Blogger Seeking Advice

I feel as if I have run in circles in my blogging life and would welcome some advice. My last blog went for three or four years on Blogspot and I left it because it had become quite one-dimensional. It needed a new start–a clean virtual slate. Now three months into it on this new blog and I seem to be  right back where I was. The atmosphere I would like to have on this blog is as my newly edited sidebar widget reads:

Back in the day people often visited with family or friends on a Sunday afternoon. They sat around and talked on the porch while the kids chased fireflies. A glass of iced tea and a porch swing were the only accessories needed. They laughed and watched stars in the sky. That’s the feeling I would like to cultivate on this blog. It’s not where I want it to be yet, but I’d love for you to pull up a chair and join me.

But reality is that this space is very much a showcase for my handmade cards that allows me to participate in blog challenges. Hmmm. Can the two peacefully coexist, or is the peaceful feel I am after shattered by endless chatter about papers and embellishments? The reality is, that I enjoy crafting and perhaps  have gotten a little obsessive about card making over the last few years to the exclusion of other means of expression. Does that ever happen to you with a hobby?

Can blogging really be used to carry on a conversation with a broader group of people than one can scare up in a modern neighborhood? Can a blog exist without having to slather it with pictures? LOL Can I be happy if I blog and no one is listening, much like the proverbial tree that falls in the forest while no one is looking…

Do you have any ideas?

I am kinda speechless about your entry :-)
But we are all so busy nowdays that it is tough to carry on a conversation in a blog. Mostly it is a conversation with yourself and the rest of us just are along for the ride!

I enjoy your blog whether with pictures or chat. I feel that I know you in a more personal way than just “bloging”. Also, I have to admit I do look forward to your cards for that inspiration that I sometimes need. So, whether you are chatting about your front porch or displaying your wonderful cards and techniques, I will be waiting for your next post!
    Until next time…

LOL thanks, that does help me remember that this is probably not the best venue for interaction. Just discovered Cowbird.com this morning. Cool site.

Your new blog is just fine. It might be a little awkward for people to leave long, chatty porch type conversations, because everyone out there in blog land can read them. I mainly stop by for OWH cards but that doesn’t mean I don’t thoroughly enjoy reading everything else you have posted. Keep up the good work!

Like your thought process. I think a blog is what you make of it. I ignore convention and just blather on anyhow whether it’s in a comment box or on my own blog. I love the fact that I have readers who never comment- they are my silent friends(!). One lady bumped into me recently and said something lovely to me about my blog. I never dreamed she was reading it. Carry on putting beautiful cards and I’m convinced the extra stuff just enhanced your blog and makes us feel we might know you a little. I love card blogs with eye candy but will keep coming back to blogs with a human ‘connection’ iykwim?!!
